Many people choose joint replacement surgery so they’ll be able to exercise and lose weight. However, most studies have shown that joint replacement surgery has little effect on your ability to lose weight. In fact, some studies have found that patients are more likely to gain weight after undergoing joint replacement surgery, at least in the short term.
However, a recent study has found that patients were more likely to lose weight after their joint replacement. In addition, the authors of the study recommend formal nutritional counseling and exercise goals be incorporated into the post-operative care plans for joint replacement patients. Since many patients undergo this surgery to help with weight loss, it makes sense to do everything possible to help achieve this goal.
