The S.C. Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Alliance will receive $188,788 from the U.S. Department of Energy for hydrogen education programs aimed at local and state government officials.
The programs over a three-year period include in-person training sessions and meetings, online resources and web-based seminars, the Columbia-based alliance announced recently.
"This latest award from the Department of Energy is proof that South Carolina is recognized as one of the key players on the road to the hydrogen economy," said Shannon Baxter-Clemmons, executive director for the alliance.
The programs are a joint venture between the alliance and Greenway Energy, a Columbia consulting firm. The alliance will work with the S.C. Energy Office, S.C. Chapter of the American Planning Association, Municipal Association of South Carolina and the S.C. Fire Marshal’s office to reach government officials.
The 2009 National Hydrogen Association Conference and Hydrogen Expo will be held March 30 through April 3 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. On April 1, the public will can attend a day of hydrogen education activities, including a chance to drive a hydrogen-powered vehicle.
